# 2. Getting MATIC on Polygon

The native token on Polygon network is MATIC.

In order to complete most basic transactions on the network, you will need to pay gas. Gas fees are paid in MATIC.

There are various ways in which you can acquire MATIC.

You may purchase various cryptocurrencies within your Metamask wallet via third party's.

Additionally you can opt to use one of many various Centralized Exchanges, or "CEX" to purchase ETH.

In the link below you will find a list of exchanges.

Some Centralized Exchanges may not be available in your jurisdiction.

If you have already MATIC on other networks, for example Ethereum mainnet and wish to bridge those assets over to Polygon mainnet, you can use this bridging tool provided by Polygon to transfer, or "bridge" these assets to the Polygon blockchain.
